Classic Tex-Mex with Mesquite Flare! | Locally Owned for Over 25 Years
Brothers, Adam Gonzales and David Quintanilla were born in San Juan, Texas, and moved at an early age with their family to Manchaca, 10 miles south of Austin, Texas. Adam enjoyed cooking and learning family recipes with his mother, Enemencia “Emcie”, while David was fascinated with creating and building. After graduating from high school, David attained his architectural engineering degree from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1984, David and a partner opened a structural and civil engineering company, “JQ Engineering”. Adam attended the University of Houston’s hospitality program and worked at several Mexican restaurants.
In 1987, Adam and David collaborated to create the Serranos concept and opened their first Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin. Adam concentrated on the development of the food, bar, and operations, while David focused on the design, financing, and administration. Customers quickly became fascinated with Serranos, being the first Tex-Mex restaurant to provide mesquite grilled fajitas and hand-shaken margaritas in Austin. Serranos’ philosophy has always been to provide customers with quality food and beverages and generous portions at an affordable price. It didn’t take long before Serranos developed loyal customers and soon there was a constant line out the door. As Austin and the surrounding communities have grown, so has the demand for good Mexican food restaurants. Business expanded from its original location to multiple locations in Austin and Cedar Park. All Serranos restaurants are family owned and operated. The growth and expansion of Serranos has been carefully crafted in order to maintain the integrity of our restaurants including our core values – to serve unsurpassed Tex-Mex food with exceptional service in a festive atmosphere, providing customers with the best dining experience. It is very important to visit with our customers at each location and ensure the restaurants are properly operating to Serranos’ standards.
Serranos concept was built on providing customers with fresh made recipes while using Texas Mesquite wood to infuse meats, seafood, and vegetables for a unique smoky flavor. While Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurants typically grill food on a gas grill or griddle, Serranos only uses mesquite wood to provide an unsurpassed flavor. Our famous Beef Fajitas are hand trimmed using premium outside skirt steak, basted and seasoned over a hot mesquite fire, which are so tender that they will melt in your mouth. We take pride in providing guests with homemade recipes prepared daily; from the fresh salsa to the flour and corn tortillas. Although our specialty is mesquite grilling, we serve traditional Tex-Mex entrees such as Enchiladas and Tacos, as well as interior Mexican dishes like Carnitas. Our quality flows into the bar with Classic Margaritas made with 100% Blue Agave Tequila, Triple Sec, fresh lime and lemon juices. Real fruit is used in other Margaritas like the seasonal summer Watermelon Margarita.
Our goal is to tie into our local roots while staying true to our Mexican heritage, giving customers the best of both, Texas and Mexico “Tex-Mex”. Each restaurant is designed with festive colors, Mexican décor, and paintings from local artist. Serranos’ success is attributed to serving quality food and beverages with exceptional customer service in a clean festive atmosphere. Throughout the years, our employees have played a vital role in providing guests with great customer service, helping to make the expansion and success of Serranos possible. We rely on our staff to treat each customer like they are a guest in their own home so come in, relax, and enjoy!
We appreciate all of the support that the greater Austin community has given us for over 25 years and are glad that we are able to give back! Education is important to us so we strive to support local schools so children will continue to be motivated to graduate and pursue their dreams. Youth sports play a big role in providing children with an active healthy lifestyle, building self-confidence, and learning teamwork. Therefore, we support youth sports organizations and have volunteered our time coaching.
